Welcome to Virtual Vacation Bible School 2020!

Our Virtual VBS experiences below are for all ages.

The combined teen and adult class will be studying the "Doctrine of the Trinity." The two adult "sessions" and extra lecture will be followed up with a group discussion for a combined teen and adult class during the Wednesday, August 26th, Bible Study (an audio recording will be posted after the discussion session).   *** Move from one slide to the next by pressing > or < and NOT the solid arrow that starts "auto forward." ***

The children's class theme is, "Courage No Matter What the Cost," focusing on the stories of Esther and Shadrach Meshach and Abednego.

VBS 2020 Children's Class

Courage No Matter What the Cost

Session One - Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the Fiery Furnace
Note to Parents/Guardians:   This virtual VBS experience is designed for children ages 5 to 12 and should be a shared experience with your child(ren).  It will open an opportunity for discussion about choosing to do the will of God and living for God in all circumstances and situations.  It will afford you the opportunity to share your own testimony with your child(ren) about how YOU have chosen to do the will of God in the face of possible rejection, retaliation or even harm so that they can be strengthened by your example as well.  Let's train up our children in the way they should go!
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the Fiery Furnace
Before you view the video try to think of a time when you have been in a situation where you had to choose between doing what you knew God would have you do and what other people said you should do? How did you handle it?
Now watch the Video and make sure you start at the very beginning  of the video.  It's about 25 minutes long. There will be commercials during the video, but make sure you watch all the way until the end and listen to the song at the end as well.
Now answer these questions...

1. Chris chose to cheat on the test because he wanted to go to the amusement park. Is it ever okay to choose to do something wrong in order to get what we want?

2. When Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego told king Nebuchadnezzar that they would not bow down to his statue they said that God has the power to save them, even from the fiery furnace, if He chose to save them.  That means that they were not sure that God would actually save them, but they were going to obey God's word even if they did have to die in the furnace. They really had the courage to trust God no matter what the cost!  We would say that they had incredible _ _ _ _ _ in God.

ANSWER: FAITH

Bible Verse:  "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!"  Philippians 4:13

A Point of Prayer...   While it is most unlikely that anyone would ever want to throw us in a fiery furnace, we all have opportunities to be courageous and do what we know God requires of us no matter what the cost.  Pray and ask the Lord to give you the strength and faith to be courageous enough to always stand for what is right and do what the Lord would have you do no matter what the cost!

Now that you've watch the video about Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the Fiery Furnace you should read this story in the Bible.  You can use a Children's Bible or Storybook Bible, or you can read Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego's story right from the Bible in the Book of Daniel, Chapter 3.  In the Bible the Book of Daniel is in the Old Testament. It's always nice to read the Bible with someone so maybe your parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, sister, brother, cousin, or a friend can read with you.

Courage No Matter What the Cost

Session 2 - Queen Esther

Before you view the video try to think of a time when you may have had a chance to stand up for someone or something that other people were against? How did you handle it?

Now watch the Video and make sure you start at the very beginning of the video. It's about 25 minutes long. There will be commercials during the video, but make sure you watch all the way until the end and listen to the song at the end as well.

Now answer these questions...

1. Do you think Joy was courageous for nominating Bonnie to be a member of the club even though the President of the club didn't want her to?

2. Queen Esther was courageous to go to the king knowing it meant she could be killed. We sometimes call that "putting ourselves in harm's way". There are people in U.S. History like Harriet Tubman, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Congressman John Lewis who also stood up for what is right and put themselves "in harm's way". Do you know who came down from heaven and was born as a Baby in a stable in Bethlehem, grew up and taught us how to live a life that is pleasing to God while all along knowing His purpose was to be in harm's way because He came from heaven to die on a cross as the only possible perfect sacrifice for our sins, bringing salvation to those who believe in Him and repent of their sin?

ANSWER: JESUS

Bible Verse: For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

A Point of Prayer... We all have opportunities to be courageous and do what we know God requires of us no matter what the cost. Pray and ask the Lord to give you the strength faith to be courageous enough to always stand for what is right and do what the Lord would have you do no matter what the cost!

Now that you've watch the video about Queen Esther you should read this story in the Bible. You can use a Children's Bible or Storybook Bible, or you can read the story of Esther right from the Bible in the Book of Esther. In the Bible the Book of Esther is in the Old Testament just after Nehemiah. There are 10 Chapters in the Book of Esther so it will take you a while to read it. You may want to read 1 or 2 Chapters each day or come up with your own reading plan. It's always nice to read the Bible with someone so maybe your parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, sister, brother, cousin, or a friend can read with you.
